Former Student Work
What's up Chat, As we get closer and closer to end of the year it is time to lock in towards our AICE Final Project. This week we looked at previous film openings from other AICE Students and heres how it went...
Roll Call: I would rate this opener a 6/10. I like the suspenseful music in the beginning as well as the police car, this gave a realistic feel to their movie. The over the shoulder shots were a good selection since the actors were being interviewed for a murder. They did a good job picking the location, since this is a true crime film, going to a real police headquarters was a great touch. I do think that they should've included low music during the interview process to add suspense. There was some dead silence towards the end, so some music would've been a great addition. One weakness was also that the camera movement was really shaky throughout the entire opener, I wasn't a big fan of this.
New Everything: I would give this opener a 4/10. Initially, the start of the opener wasn't really intriguing. It didn't grasp my attention and make me want to watch this film. I wasn't a big fan of the type of film they decided to do I think they could've put in more effort into their opener. Additionally the sound effects don't match the characters movements, like the walking sound effect. Some of their shots don't really match the type of seen being shown, like for the bathroom scene, the camera started at the roof and then panned down (in my opinion it doesn't match the characters actions.) The only strength of this movie I would say is that the camera movement was not too bad, it wasn't too shaky and they did a good job at following the character's movements.
Dreamland: Initially I would give this opener a 9/10. I really liked the beginning with the title screen and the flowers swaying in the background, alongside the filter they used. It gave the opening a sort of dreamy effect, which matched the title. The camera movements, angles, and shots were executed really well alongside the music played during the beginning. The overhead shots, the close ups, the cross-cutting between the actions and the characters were performed very well. They also did a good job with editing as in the beginning most of their shots were reversed. Overall a really good opener, although I do wish there was some type of dialogue to help the viewer understand what's going on.
Dear Lover: I rate this opener a 10/10. The music and setting matched the mood of the film as it gave a sentimental mood with the character sitting by the lake reminiscing about her lover. The dialogue really helped set the tone of the movie and help me understand the type of film this was. I liked the shots used in this film as they help convey the main characters feeling. The shots also do a great job of following the characters movements throughout the film. I really liked the addition of flashbacks and flashforwards as it helps contribute to the reminiscent or nostalgic tone of the movie. The actors did a good job conveying the main characters emotions as well. I have no negative thoughts about this opener as it grasped my attention and made me want to continue watching the film. Overall very good opener.
Dare to Thrill: I rate this opener a 9/10. What stood out to me the most was the Camera movements and angles. The movement and angles in this opener were probably the best so far as it made me feel like I was actually watching a real moving. This group did an amazing job with the camera movements and angles. The car scenes were done really well as you can see this group put in effort into their film. The only critique I have is that the music was really loud and it kind off took away from the sense of feeling from the characters. Overall this group did a great job on their opener.
